About
Riya Roy is a Ph.D. candidate in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the University of Lethbridge with a strong passion for gene expression regulation, particularly focusing on non-coding RNAs and RNA editing in Alzheimer's disease. Her research bridges molecular biology and genomics, aiming to uncover the regulatory roles of non-coding DNA in complex diseases. As the Prairies Regional Coordinator for the Canadian Bioinformatics Hub, she plays an active role in advancing bioinformatics training and community building initiatives across the region. With an M.Sc. in Bioinformatics from Pondicherry University (Grade A) and five years of research training with RNA Innovation, Riya brings extensive expertise in mammalian cell culture, RNA biology, and advanced laboratory techniques. She has contributed to graduate-level education as a Teaching Assistant in Physical Chemistry and Chemistry for Life Sciences, earning the C3 General Student Scholarship from College Chemistry Canada. Her professional experience includes a project internship at Cytophage Technologies where she gained expertise in bacterial cell culture, bacterial transformation, and multiple related technical skills.
